All About My 1st Year book

Being a mother is one of the greatest joys a woman can ever experience. The love a mother has for her children is indescribable. It's a whole new kind of love! Watching my daughters grow from the moment they were born till now that they are 1 and 3 years old is priceless. Babies grow so fast and it makes me want to cherish every minute of it.

It's great that I have a blog where I could share my motherhood experience and important moments of my babies' life... like their first food, first tooth, first haircut, or that time when Raina just discovered her foot, or when Ayra tried on my stilettos, or even the time when she hid stuff in unexpected places! It made me all nostalgic when I read them and brings back wonderful memories. Trust me, when you have a baby, you just want to record everything (or at least, snap pictures) - even the little things!

Having a scrapbook is also a great way to cherish the memories of your baby. You can make it yourself from scratch, or buy ready-made ones like this: All About My 1st Year.

It's a book that let's you record important moments of your baby's first year. This book contains a few sections and you can fill up the details as well as stick on pictures (I've yet to finish them up)!

Other sections include:

- How I got my name
- Celebrating my arrival into the world
- My early days
- Look.. I'm growing - Month 1 to Month 12
- My 1st festive celebration
- My 1st big holiday
- ...and many more!

There are 35 pages altogether and it is priced at RM49.95.
It'd be a great baby shower gift too!

Biggest Book Sale in the World

Went to this, yesterday morning.

Yup, the Big Bad Wolf book sale!

To be honest, I've never heard of BBW before (except in Little Red Riding Hood).... until last week, when a few friends mentioned it on Twitter. They were having massive MASSIVE sale on books and everyone was raving about it - it's basically a heaven for book lovers and being one myself, I didn't wanna miss it!

We only managed to go there on the very last day, which was yesterday. We arrived at 10.30am and it was already packed with people.

The first thing I saw when I entered the hall was this!

Shopaholic books for RM8 each weh!!! I just have to get 'em (even tho I've read them). In fact, all novels were only RM8 each. Crazy, right??! But since it was the last day, most of the good books are sold out. Banyak buku yang tak pernah dengar (to me, at least). If only we went there few days earlier....

I didn't get to browse the books betul-betul tho - what with the crowd and my kids and my bags. Challenging betul! And I couldn't find the books I wanted - parenting, children and desserts books especially. Like I said, there were a lot of unfamiliar ones. But I saw so many books by Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver and I thought to myself, I'll take it later. Nak browse lain dulu. What I was thinking??! Of course the books were all gone by the time I went there the second time. Bahhh! Menyesal! >_<

I couldn't help glancing over at other people's loots while browsing the books. Saw some interesting books and I wondered how and where did they find those books. Aku round 2 kali tak jumpa pun! Anyway, people were carrying boxes, trolleys...some even brought luggage! I only brought my Envirosax shopping bags. There were still room for more books actually but I couldn't tahan anymore - the kids were cranky, the crowd was getting larger and my shoulders macam nak patah from all that carrying.

Can you imagine how I carried all those in the crowd of people -
my handbag and pink shopping bag on one shoulder, orange shopping bag on the other shoulder, while carrying Raina in front. I think I carried 20kg altogether!

Seronok dapat bebas dari kesesakan!

So here are my haul:

Books for me (lots of chick lits)

And for my girls (seriously, tak banyak children books yang tinggal)

All 16 books for only RM122. It's totally a steal if you ask me! Despite not being able to get the books that I really wanted, I'm still very happy with my purchase! I will surely come again next year (kalau ada. Mestilah ada lagi kan?).

Books and cookies, the perfect duo

I used to be able to finish a 1-inch thick book in just 5 hours. Two days the longest.
But now it seems to take ages!

I started reading Mini Shopaholic last year in November. It's February now and the book is only half read. I can't believe it has been three months and I still haven't finished reading it! Is anyone else having a hard time finishing this book, or is it just me?

Ok maybe it's just me. But I figured a way to speed my reading.
It's with cookies!

Yes I like to read and munch. I know it's not good but there's nothing like reading a good book in bed while munching on cookies. Chocolate chip cookies especially. I don't know, but it kind of enhances the whole experience. Pretty much like eating popcorn while watching a movie.

I love Joy the Baker blog and decided to try her White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies. I don't have white chocolate in my kitchen so I used chocolate chips instead.

It was actually my first time using a parchment paper for baking. Why didn't I use one before? It makes things easier because I don't have to wash the baking tray! I am never gonna grease my baking tray ever again!

My cookies turned out pretty nice. Bet it would be nicer if I use white chocolate.

Now I can continue reading from where I last stopped - chapter 14!

Current Reads

At the moment I'm reading the latest book by Sophie Kinsella, Mini Shopaholic.

Don't I have the cutest bookmark?

The Shopaholic series is my favorite series ever (like seriously, which shopaholic doesn't like to read the Shopaholic series right?). I've been wanting to read this book ever since I heard about its release and now I'm so excited that I've finally got my hands on it! If this blog is un-updated in the next few days, you'll know why.

My husband on the other hand, is currently reading The Paleo Solution: The Original Human Diet.

We've been planning to watch what we eat and lead a healthier lifestyle because both of us gained a lot of weight when we were pregnant (apparently I wasn't the only one who was eating for two) and this book seems like the perfect read for us. This book is rated 5 stars and got great reviews on Amazon.com. I am definitely gonna read this as well.

Oh hey, have I ever mentioned that Ayra has a love for books too? She's currently "reading" How to Enjoy Your Life and Your Job. Impressive, no? ;p

And her job is playing all day long.
Who doesn't love that?!

The Must-Read Book for Pregnant Moms

When I was pregnant with my first child, I used to read as many books as I can about pregnancy and baby, besides doing a lot of research (online). I just had to know what was going on inside me, what to expect and such, and I find having good books to read about pregnancy is really helpful. I guess that's normal especially for first-time moms.

Now that I'm on my second pregnancy, I don't read pregnancy books anymore. I just skimmed through certain topics when I feel like it (which is like, only 2-3 times so far) because my toddler keeps me busy. I read her books more than I read mine!

The only pregnancy-related reading I do now is the weekly email I get from BabyCenter.com and also this app called What To Expect which I downloaded on my iPhone.

But there is one book that I want to re-read and would highly recommend it to all pregnant women or those who are planning to get pregnant. I've talked about this book before in my previous posts but I want to talk about it again. It's my ultimate favorite pregnancy book - Ina May's Guide to Childbirth.

This book is about natural childbirth and it's a must-read, even if you're not planning to have a natural childbirth because it's very informative and mind-blowing. The first part of the book is a collection of inspiring birth stories. Reading these stories is kind of like a brainwash from all those negative birth stories that were "installed" in your head from what you've heard/saw/read before. The second part of the book is about the essentials of birth.

"Ina May's Guide to Natural Childbirth takes the fear out of childbirth by restoring women's faith in their own natural power to give birth with more ease, less pain, and less medical intervention" - eNotAlone.com

You know the feeling when you're so afraid of something that's going to happen and you would do anything to really prepare yourself for it? Well that's what I did. I wanted a normal delivery with no epidural so I searched high and low about natural childbirth and came across Bradley method. Then I searched about Bradley method (I wanted to sign up for the classes but they're available in Malaysia) and that was how I came across Ina May's book. I was so convinced to get the book after reading the customers' reviews on Amazon.com, especially this one review from a woman who was planning to take epidural but later changed her mind after reading the book. I thought, wow this book must be really good. And so I bought it. And read it. And fell in love with it. This book played a major part in preparing me for childbirth, 2 years ago. And now I want to read it again, especially because Ayra was born before I could finish reading it.

I hope my second birthing experience will be of ease, insyaallah.

By the way, the last time I checked, the book was only available at Kinokuniya bookstore for RM69.90.

p/s: Can anyone recommend the best book about breastfeeding that you've ever read? I want to get one. Thanks!

Reading in the Dark

The only reading I do these days is online (no, not eBooks) - besides reading children books to my little girl. I'd be lucky if I can get 5 minutes to read my book without her jumping around, trying to snatch it from me. The only suitable time for me to read is at night when she's asleep... but there was a problem: it's dark. (I like to read books in my bed because that's the only way I can totally immerse myself).

So that is why I opt to "read" online instead. The laptop is well-lit, there's no problem reading in the dark.

But oh how I missed reading books. I used to lock myself in my room and spent a lot of time curling up in my bed with my nose stuck in a book (sometimes with a bag of chocolate chip cookies). I can spend hours just doing that, oblivious to my surroundings. Sometimes I would read the same books over and over and over again, until I had the chance to go to the bookstore to stock up some new books. I didn't have a problem finishing a book in just one day then (if it's a really good book. And then I would go like, "alaa dah habis!").

Now it seems like it would take ages to finish reading just one book. But I thought, hey at least I read! So I picked up some books at Times the other day (3 books for Ayra, only 1 for me). I wanted to make it a habit to read at least 2-3 pages a day. Can you believe I haven't done any book-readings for months? Anyway I decided to start on something light and chick-lit, and found one. It was a book that a blog reader of mine recommended to me awhile ago (thank Rachel!).

The "darkness" problem was still an issue... but not for long! My sweet husband bought this Energizer reading light for me because he knows how much I love reading. It looks pretty much like a street light, no? A cute flexible street light.

It's a white LED light and it's bright enough for me. Now I can read in the dark while my baby's asleep!

Got the book, not the time

I've had this book since a week ago, but guess what? I'm only at page 50! My baby only allows me to read a few pages a day, that's why. I hope I could finish it before the movie is out. I can't wait!

Twilight

I have never been so engrossed in a book like I did with Twilight. And it's not even chick-lit or anything fashion-related. I managed to finish reading the book in just one day despite my busy schedule of being a new mommy. It was hard to put the book down that I even read it while breastfeeding my baby (I find that a good way to distract myself from the knife-like pain of sore nipples). I was hesitant to read let alone purchase the book at first, no matter how "best-selling" it was bcoz... well, romance was never my choice of book.

But after watching the movie, I was seriously hooked. I've watched it for more than 5 times now and I am definitely going to watch it again, especially after reading the book. Who would have thought vampires could be that interesting? I can't wait to finish off the other 3 books.

Both movie and books are fast becoming my favorite!

On a side note...

I find myself falling deeply for Edward Cullen bcoz of his intense gaze. The way he stared at Bella - altho a little creepy - was ardently sensual that it gave me goosebumps. And how he protects Bella; that's just so sweeeeet.

Book Review: Comfort Food

I came across this book at Popular bookstore some eons ago. At first glance, I thought it was a cooking book. Or a book about food.

That yellow bag is from Zara. I know bcoz I've seen it in the shop. Never thought it could be turned into a grocery bag!

But it's not.
I purchased it anyway.

Comfort Food is a story about Gus, a 50-year-old widow who is a famous cooking celebrity with her own cooking show which took place in her own fab kitchen in the Cooking Channel. (Gee, that was a mouthful). But as time goes by, the number of her viewers dropped and her boss thought if it has to do with her getting older, so he adds a little spice by pairing her up with a gorgeous former Miss Spain to join her in her cooking show. There are other characters in this story as well, including Gus' two daughters and her best friend. The rest of the story tells about how Gus has to deal with her life and others around her.

To me, this is an okay read. I love the parts about the cookings and food. I wish there's more of that. I give it 3 stars out of 5. It took me about 2 weeks to finish reading this one, so it's not really something that you cannot put down. But if you are a fan of Kate Jacobs, then this might be a comfort read for you.

My First LBD

I bought my very first Little Black Dresses, and I don't care if I can't wear them!

Oh no, I don't mean that...

I mean, this!

I managed to catch the Times Bookstores Book Fair at Pavilion last Sunday, so I decided to pick up something light and entertaining bcoz all this while I have my nose stuck in pregnancy books (not that it's no fun; it is, but sometimes I feel like I'm studying Biology all over again).

I wasn't really keen on LBD books before (I'm not sure why tho) but since there were not so many choices of Chick Lit books, I decided to give it a try. Plus, TPC members can get 20% discount on all books. So after skimming all the titles, I finally chose Falling Out Of Fashion and She'll Take It. I have a feeling that the latter one would be more interesting.

I'm just curious tho, what makes you decide to purchase or read a book? Besides books that are being recommended or best-sellers.

As for me, I would first skim the titles, then the illustrations on the book cover (or vice-versa). Then I read the very first paragraph of the first chapter. This is most important to me, and the whole buy/read decision is based on that bcoz it's a way to tell if I can click with the book. Synopsis doesn't help that much.

But let's see if those apply to the two books as well.

Remember Me?

My bro asked me, what do I want for my (belated) birthday, so I said... this!

I finished reading the whole book in about hmm... 4 hours straight. I think I'm gonna read it again tomorrow.

And that reminds me...

Dear sisters, remember my birthday? Yeah well, I'm still waiting for my birthday presents - and Ohh, let's not forget my belated Wedding presents as well while it's still "early days"! ;p

Have you heard?

Bet you have, especially Kinsella's fans.

There will be a movie based on the Confessions of A Shopaholic book which will be released somewhere around middle of next year, and I'm so excited as I've been waiting for like ever, and bcoz that is one of my favorite Shopaholic series of all! But I'm also a little anxious as to how the movie and the book would be related to each other bcoz the whole plot would be in New York instead of London, and Becky is NOT a British. I mean, all this while I've been imagining Becky's posh-but-friendly British accent and the whole London thingy when reading the book, so if the movie "turned" Becky into an American - well, something is just not right. Hmm...

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, huh!

Anyways, I think it's about time that Sophie releases a new book and walla~ my prayers were answered!

I know it's not here yet, but it will, so that's what matters. Let's just hope it won't take ages to reach Malaysia! ;p

p/s: I don't know why, but I keep on picturing Victoria Beckham as Becky (bcoz of her fashionable sense of style), and Julian McMahon as Luke. Who do you have in mind to play the characters, btw?

My Mini Library

Do you know that the choice of books you read reveals your predominant thoughts, desires and values? Well, I didn't really realized that until I read Jim Rohn's book quite recently; 7 Strategies for Wealth & Happiness. According to the America's Most Foremost Business Philosopher..

"I find out more by looking through someone's book or tape collection than I do through idle conversation. Mostly, a library, or lack of one, tells me what a person is thinking or if he or she is thinking at all."

Somehow, it does make sense. You are what you read.

So what does my library says about me?
A health-and-beauty-conscious shopaholic who wants to be wealthy and successful! :D

I do love books, so very much, aside from bags and shoes and rings. Every time when I go to the malls and if I couldn't find anything interesting to splurge on, I'll buy a book or two instead to cheer me up. I just have to have that feeling of buying something, so books are just perfect - they actually count as an investment for my personal growth without wasting money on unnecessary stuff just for the sake of 'buying things' (actually it was MZ's idea in the first place). I don't have a special room or library to store my book collection tho (plus my books aren't that many yet), so I just store 'em in a drawer like this:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Sometimes when I have nothing to do or when I'm alone in my room, I love to pull out the drawer and feast my eyes on the colorful sight of the books. It's like an instant mood-lifter, really.

I've added these 2 books to my collection recently, and now there ain't no space left for 'em.

I need a bigger drawer now. Or even better, a cute bookcase like the one below. Now where do I find one - any idea?

Cocktails For Three

I've just finished reading this book that I bought the other day.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
ooh yes, that's a new ring too..

I picked this one up simply bcoz it's the same author as the Shopaholic series' (with a different name tho; her real name), so I was hoping it would be a fun read just like her Kinsella books.

It was.. okay. A book about friendship and stuff. Nothing wrong with that, just that.. there are three main characters in it and halfway through it I kind of like lost track who is who, so I had to refer to the front pages and reread some of it again. And it wasn't as funny as I expected (the review on the book says it's funny). But even so, I managed to finish it up in about 2 days. Not bad for a not-so-fun book eyh?

Anyway, this book reminds me of the adorable taste of Tony Roma's Pina Colada. Yum!
I wonder if Pan Pac serves that drink...

Oooh..it's 5 o'clock. I'd better get dressed.

Books I'm Currently into

Believe it or not, my serious-stuff book collection exceeds the number of my chick-lit books. Like more than half. I'm pretty amazed with myself! (I've only realized, the only chick-lit books I truly adore are those by Sophie Kinsella. Maybe that's why).

Here's a glimpse of what I've been reading since 2-3 weeks ago (which explains the lack of blog update, but I'm almost finish with my reads so that's why I'm blogging again).

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I think I've invested the money I should spend for shoes on those books instead bcoz err, let's see- there's that M&S tunic, Miss Selfridge necklace, Miss Selfridge black-n-silver tunic, Topshop and Axxezz rings, Zara tops, Motivi tunic, some makeups from Stila and Clinique, Prada perfume, VB jeans, and yet another tunic top I got from one of those quirky shops at Times Square but surprisingly, NO shoes for this month! Hmm...

Luckily, MZ bought a few e-books and printed them out for me, so I saved a few hundreds there.

Anyway, metaphysics has taken over the majority of the place in my list of "books to buy":

- The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
- The Rules Of Life by Richard Templar
- You Were Born Rich by Bob Proctor
- The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy
- Breaking The Rules by Kurt Wright
- Wealth Beyond Reason by Bob Doyle
- Notes From The Universe by Mike Dooley
- Shopaholic & Baby by Sophie Kinsella

Don’t judge a book by its cover

Well, the title says it all.

I recently bought a book (a box actually. The book was in the box), which I thought was very good and worth it that I didn’t bother to check what’s inside to have a look or something. Hey- it’s pink, it’s cute and it says “Best Beauty Product 2007” and “over $50 worth of product samples!” all over it; who would’ve thought that the insides were filled with junks? So as a natural impulsive buyer, I bought it excitedly without much thinking.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Later in the car, I was crushed to find out that the samples given are pieces of shite (excuse my language). I had luxury cosmetics in mind when I saw the word “product sample”. Like maybe samples of Chanel foundation, Bobbi Brown eyeshadows, some lippies from Benefit and perhaps La Mer body cream or something. But instead, they are stuff that you can just get from drugstores or even for free (like free samples in mags). Nivea cream? Chupa Chups lipbalm? Banana Boat sunblock? And they call that “Best Beauty Product”???

Don't get me wrong now, I don't have anything against stuff like that (
I'm wearing Nivea lipbalm btw). But I think there should've been more "high-end" product samples. The authors are just giving away samples that are from the Low-rating category, and none from the Outrageous or High categories langsung!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Honestly, I wouldn’t give a damn if I were to purchase all of those and later found out that I don’t like ‘em. But I do give a damn if I purchase something expensive (like Benefit eye pencil, for instance) and then after a couple of times using it, I found out that I don’t quite like it. So this is when samples should come in handy. Okay, so the whole box and sample goodies + book didn’t cost over a hundred. But RM80 for a boxful of junk? I think that’s outrageous. I could get a Stila Lip Glaze Stick and still left with RM5 to buy a Cinnabon, you know. I wouldn’t mind if they are selling a boxful of luxury product samples for RM100, seriously! Arghh...geram geram! And the book is nothing like I expected - thin and softcover and the products reviewed are limited and mostly are only available in the States. What a rip-off! Our local magazines punya product reviews jauh lagi bagus tau.

And to make things even worse, last night
I tried one of the samples given, which is DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (a skincare brand from Japan) and then today, I woke up with a huge zit on my left cheek! FYI, I haven’t had a single pimple for months ever since I started using HL skincare. I am so pissed off! @#$!?%&$!!!

I should've bought VB's That Extra Half An Inch instead.

p/s: Has anybody tried any one of the foundations from
Chanel? I’m thinking of buying one bcoz of the reviews I read on the net. But am not sure if it's any good for shiny skin like moi. The tinted moisturizer from Laura Mercier that I’m currently using is fine but u know, I am one curious lady...
