Books I'm Currently into

Believe it or not, my serious-stuff book collection exceeds the number of my chick-lit books. Like more than half. I'm pretty amazed with myself! (I've only realized, the only chick-lit books I truly adore are those by Sophie Kinsella. Maybe that's why).

Here's a glimpse of what I've been reading since 2-3 weeks ago (which explains the lack of blog update, but I'm almost finish with my reads so that's why I'm blogging again).

I think I've invested the money I should spend for shoes on those books instead bcoz err, let's see- there's that M&S tunic, Miss Selfridge necklace, Miss Selfridge black-n-silver tunic, Topshop and Axxezz rings, Zara tops, Motivi tunic, some makeups from Stila and Clinique, Prada perfume, VB jeans, and yet another tunic top I got from one of those quirky shops at Times Square but surprisingly, NO shoes for this month! Hmm...

Luckily, MZ bought a few e-books and printed them out for me, so I saved a few hundreds there.

Anyway, metaphysics has taken over the majority of the place in my list of "books to buy":

- The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
- The Rules Of Life by Richard Templar
- You Were Born Rich by Bob Proctor
- The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy
- Breaking The Rules by Kurt Wright
- Wealth Beyond Reason by Bob Doyle
- Notes From The Universe by Mike Dooley
- Shopaholic & Baby by Sophie Kinsella

Skincare woes turned wow!

I think I know the real culprit to my current zits problem. Yeah, zits– as in plural. I’ve been experiencing another 3 after the first incident. I think it’s not the DHC oil thingy (the sample I got from the Beauty Buyble book) bcoz I’ve stopped using it immediately after it popped out the next morning. But now it has tripled!

You see, about three months ago, I felt the urge of switching to Herbalife Nouri Fusion skincare products after getting fed up with the one-after-another pimples I got during my times with Dermalogica. The peak of that switching-urge process was when I met Julie and she said something like, what happened to your face, blabla.. It was that bad (but not as bad as the SK-II incident. That was the most horrible experience ever!), and I knew I had to stop using Dermalogica. MZ was going to Singapore for a short business trip early of November last year (or izzit end of October, I’m not so sure), so the timing was perfect. I asked him to purchase 6 of the products for me, as Nouri Fusion skincare line was not yet available in Malaysia at that time. Those 6 products were gel cleanser, toner, moisturizer, eye cream, clarifying mask and exfoliating scrub.

Two months passed by. And for the first time ever I did not experience a single break out – not even during PMS or menstruation! How fantastic is that? The only slight problem is, I find it hard to resist not poking the whiteheads on my nose (sebagai bukti, I also did the white/blackheads extracting for my friends as well, back in Melaka. It’s like an addiction or something) so if I’m not doing it the right way - after exfoliation; using clean fingers or the extractor - it’ll leave (temporary) marks. But those marks will soon be gone in 2-3 days jer pon if I’m that ganas, so it’s really not a problem.

Just FYI, I am a product junkie (be it makeup or skincare, but more of the latter one) and I think everyone who’re close to me are fully aware of that. Just take a look at my dressing table. Tak cukup dressing table, dlm laci, almari and boxes pon ada. I’ve tried zillions of skincare products and keep on switching ever since I was about 14, and it gets even serious later in my uni years; from once a year to once every 2 months (come to think of it, I actually have 10 years of skincare-switching experience! ;p). I’ve tried Cosway (or maybe it was Amway; I don't remember which 'way' it was), Nutrimetics, Clean & Clear, Olay, Clearasil, Neutrogena, Body Shop, Biotherm, Loreal, Lancome, Nivea, Origins, Estee Lauder, Shiseido, Clinique, Clarins, Skin Food, etc etc, and even the cheapest of all, that Tawas thingy. And oh, not to mention SK-II and Dermalogica. Well, some of them are good (Biotherm, Skin Food and Neutrogena for instance), but I still experienced the occasional breakouts. I don’t really have acne-prone skin, but I used to have a single or two breakouts during that time of the month, so it still bothered me. I mean, if the product is really that good, there should be no breakouts or skin problems at all right? Of course you have to consider other factors as well, like food, water and basically your lifestyle (I guess that’s one of the factors too – HL shakes. If my insides are well-kept, my outsides will too, no? It makes sense).

So anyway, I’ve recently added ‘extra work’ on my usual skincare routine after a blissful 2 months of pimple-free skin. Every night instead of just cleansing my face with NF gel cleanser, I added Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant to the step.

It has been going on for almost 2-3 weeks now, I think. It claims to make the skin smoother and brighter, so I thought why not? I don’t have any whitening product in my regime (not that I needed one, as MZ said), plus it’s like such a waste – spent close to RM150 for it and I’ve only used not even a quarter from its content. I never thought just one extra step could ruin my skin a little! I have so wanted to love the product, and even gave a teensy try (I mean, it’s only 1 of the product!) but I guess I’ll have to face the fact that Dermalogica is just not for my skin. Nasib baik tersedar awal (which was yesterday), thanx to the beauty book that I’ve bought recently (I’ve been doing lots of book-shopping lately). This is what it says in The New Beauty Bible book:

Q: Do I have to use skincare products all from the same range?
A: You don’t have to but it can improve your skin. Many ranges are designed to work together, with ingredients adjusted accordingly. This ensures that you get enough good ingredients like moisturizers and vitamins and reduces the risk of doubling up on potentially irritating ones like alpha-hydroxy acids or retinols...

I guess I’ve doubled up the vitamin dose kot (is there such thing as vitamin overdose?) bcoz Nouri Fusion skincare is packed with A, C and E vitamins already – the essential vitamins that the skin needs. And just so you know, one of the things that made me sgt sgt SGT intrigued utk try Nouri Fusion is the A-C-E part, not bcoz it’s a Herbalife product (hey, I won’t introduce something just bcoz I’m a part of it! But Herbalife seems to have fantabulous products, so that's why I joined it anyway). Since young, my mom has been repeating this over and over and over again, “nak kulit cantik sampai tua, makan vitamin A C E!”. Well now I eat and use A C E on my skin! *smug* Tell me, have you ever came across a skincare product with all these 3 essential vitamins? No, never! Well, so far saya tak penah lagi la jumpa. Maybe there are some out there, tapi tak byk. It’s either Vitamin E range, or Vitamin C range, et cetera. So far, Nouri Fusion has been my Holy Grail skincare and I hope I'll stick to it! (Although, just a teensy part of me teringin nak try La Mer skincare nanti2 bila dah kaya raya, just to know what it feels like to put on a thousand ringgit moisturizer. hikhik). And the great news is, Nouri Fusion is finally available here! There’s even an ad in February issue of Female mag.

Too bad I won’t be able to make it to the launch of Nouri Fusion tonight at Sunway Lagoon hotel (oh it's open to all btw, so if u wanna check it out, GO!). There’ll be a special promo price and I’m dying to get my hands on the Night Cream.

Anyway as for the pimples, I’m using Clinelle Blemish Clear gel and it seems to help lessen the pimples. Hopefully they’ll be gone before tomorrow’s HL party (err..sempat ker?). And that Daily Microfoliant would now go into the ‘to-give-away’ list along with other stuff.

Now is this entry lengthy or what? ;p

Let's talk health

I've never really paid so much attention on food and health issues before but since joining Herbalife, I become more aware now. Well, not yet fully aware but at least I have the consciousness so that's better than not, no?

Anyway, am gonna share with you guys something from a book that I've read recently. It's quite long, but it's interesting; at least to those who're health-conscious.

"We all have bacteria in our digestive track. Most of us know we have good bacteria and bad bacteria. We need both. When in balance, the two bacteria create the perfect environment to digest our food, extract the necessary nutrients out of it, and eliminate the rest from our body as waste.

When we eat refined flour products (like white bread, crackers, pastries, chips, and pasta -yikes!), they feed the bad bacteria in our colon. Foods with yeast in them do the same thing. Eating sugar also causes the bad bacteria to multiply rapidly. And, of course the refined sugar we have in our diets today dramatically speeds that up. Making matters much worse, refined sugar is now added to practically everything you can consume (which is perfect for creating an addiction, as you will see).

Of course we know that sugary sweets like Krispy Kreme donuts, Cinnabons, cotton candy, ice cream and soda are virtually all sugar. But did you also know that tomata ketchup, frozen peas, spaghetti sauce, salad dressings, and about a million other things contain sugar?

In any event, this refined sugar, yeast and refined flour acts like fertilizer to the bad bacteria in your intestinal track, causing it to run amok. It actually makes you crave more yeast, refined flour and sugary foods. So you lose the willpower to pass up dessert, continue to crave bread or rolls, and find yourself wanting another soda an hour after the first. It really is a physical addiction.

If you eat ice cream, cookies, or potato chips, you will keep craving more. And the more you eat, the stronger that physiological urge becomes. This keeps feeding the bad bacteria in your digestive track, which increases your physical cravings to eat yet more.

As this bad bacteria runs amok, you lose the natural peristaltic action that moves food through your colon and on to final elimination. Instead you become impacted, with your last meal pushing through the rancid, decaying and putrefying previous meals. These toxins in your digestive track seep back into your blood stream, and there is increasing evidence that this autotoxicity is responsible for many modern-day ailments, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, lethargy, hyperactivity and even Attention Deficit Disorder. In addition, your colon walls become encrusted, reducing your ability to receive nutrients from the food you eat (that's when Herbalife comes to the rescue!). You slowly become nutrient-deficient, even though you are eating regularly...."

Don’t judge a book by its cover

Well, the title says it all.

I recently bought a book (a box actually. The book was in the box), which I thought was very good and worth it that I didn’t bother to check what’s inside to have a look or something. Hey- it’s pink, it’s cute and it says “Best Beauty Product 2007” and “over $50 worth of product samples!” all over it; who would’ve thought that the insides were filled with junks? So as a natural impulsive buyer, I bought it excitedly without much thinking.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Later in the car, I was crushed to find out that the samples given are pieces of shite (excuse my language). I had luxury cosmetics in mind when I saw the word “product sample”. Like maybe samples of Chanel foundation, Bobbi Brown eyeshadows, some lippies from Benefit and perhaps La Mer body cream or something. But instead, they are stuff that you can just get from drugstores or even for free (like free samples in mags). Nivea cream? Chupa Chups lipbalm? Banana Boat sunblock? And they call that “Best Beauty Product”???

Don't get me wrong now, I don't have anything against stuff like that (
I'm wearing Nivea lipbalm btw). But I think there should've been more "high-end" product samples. The authors are just giving away samples that are from the Low-rating category, and none from the Outrageous or High categories langsung!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Honestly, I wouldn’t give a damn if I were to purchase all of those and later found out that I don’t like ‘em. But I do give a damn if I purchase something expensive (like Benefit eye pencil, for instance) and then after a couple of times using it, I found out that I don’t quite like it. So this is when samples should come in handy. Okay, so the whole box and sample goodies + book didn’t cost over a hundred. But RM80 for a boxful of junk? I think that’s outrageous. I could get a Stila Lip Glaze Stick and still left with RM5 to buy a Cinnabon, you know. I wouldn’t mind if they are selling a boxful of luxury product samples for RM100, seriously! Arghh...geram geram! And the book is nothing like I expected - thin and softcover and the products reviewed are limited and mostly are only available in the States. What a rip-off! Our local magazines punya product reviews jauh lagi bagus tau.

And to make things even worse, last night
I tried one of the samples given, which is DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (a skincare brand from Japan) and then today, I woke up with a huge zit on my left cheek! FYI, I haven’t had a single pimple for months ever since I started using HL skincare. I am so pissed off! @#$!?%&$!!!

I should've bought VB's That Extra Half An Inch instead.

p/s: Has anybody tried any one of the foundations from
Chanel? I’m thinking of buying one bcoz of the reviews I read on the net. But am not sure if it's any good for shiny skin like moi. The tinted moisturizer from Laura Mercier that I’m currently using is fine but u know, I am one curious lady...

Stains, begone!

I've found a way to solve my stained-with-eyeliner Coach bag.

No, I didn't take it to the bag cleaner. God knows how much it'd cost! I did the stain-cleaning myself, with the help of Dylon Stain Solve Dry-Clean.

I was queuing up at JJ supermarket's cashier counter the other day, waiting for my dad to finish paying and everything when I saw these odd-looking bottles. Odd bcoz I thought they were some kind of candies or something. Turned out to be... not even close to candies or any edible stuff. They are stain removers. And there are 3 types to choose from. I saw the word 'Dry-Clean' and 'Make-up', so I got that one.

The cleaning process? Easy-peasy and hassle-free, really. All I need to do is dab the stain with its applicator like this...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

And then after a few minutes of good rubbing and dabbing....
Hey presto, It's gone!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

(The stain seemed to have transferred onto my bedsheet instead. Now don't let my mom knows about that ok!)

The bestest thing about this magic stain remover is that, it only costs RM9.99! That's nothing for 75ml and a brilliant job like that! I'm gonna try it on my favorite pair of cream-colored Eclipse wedges next. Dah jadi mcm wedges kaler kelabu jer...

Free pizza, anyone?

Can anyone help me to finish up this pizza?? I'm already panting halfway through my second slice. The pizza is humongous! One slice is about the size of my wallet (or even bigger)!
